Backend Engineer

Who We Are

The Instil engineering team is responsible for building and maintaining all the features that power our product. We are a highly collaborative team who enjoys partnering with design and product to create delightful experiences for our customers.

We are looking for Backend Engineers to build features, design and implement APIs to power our applications, and iteratively improve the performance and reliability of our systems as we learn and grow. We value simplicity, we develop iteratively, and we support each other through clear and respectful communication.

Compensation for this role will be roughly 150-180 DOE, plus annual bonus, benefits, and equity.

What You Will Do

  • You will work collaboratively with Product Design, Product Management, and Backend and Frontend Engineers in a cross-functional team on product features.
  • You will translate product requirements to build, maintain, and improve APIs, services, and systems.
  • You will be responsible for the health of your code in production.
  • You will improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes.

What You Possess

  • 5+ years experience building cloud based web applications.
  • 2+ years experience working with SAAS software architectural patterns at enterprise scale.
  • Proficiency in functional or imperative programming languages -- e.g., PHP, Python, Ruby, Go, C, or Java.
  • You have developed and operated applications in AWS.
  • You take pride in your work and are responsible for operating and maintaining it.
  • You write code that is maintainable and testable in a CI/CD environment.

Nice To Have

  • You have experience with Serverless infrastructure and frameworks.
  • You have working knowledge of DynamoDB.
  • You have familiarity with Elasticsearch/Aurora
