VP Engineering

Who We Are

Instil is ambitiously working to reimagine technology for nonprofits. Empathy is at the core of how we approach building our product for the nonprofits we serve. We believe the nonprofit sector deserves access to modern technology, built specifically for their needs. We’re a highly collaborative organization, where the various departments - to include customer success, product development, marketing, sales, etc - all work very closely with one another.

We’re looking for a strategic, empathetic, results-oriented Engineering VP with a servant leader mentality and conviction rooted in deep experience.  This role will report directly to Ali Tahmasbi, the Chief Product Officer, and will partner with product to deliver on the technical strategy behind our roadmap. This role will be responsible for motivating and coordinating a highly communicative team in a fully remote environment in an open-minded, but also definitive and clear way.

Compensation for the role is in the 225-275k annual range and will include equity and competitive benefits.

This role is Remote within the US only.

What You Will Do

  • Work with technical, design, and product leadership to shape our strategy, balancing immediate against long-term goals.
  • Conduct weekly 1:1s with direct reports, working closely with the team to help them grow in their careers at Instil
  • Embody and drive our principles of DEI, and partner with our talent/people leadership to continue to diversify our team
  • Engage with the engineering team to shape and improve software delivery processes that balance pragmatism, efficiency, and developer QoL.

What You Possess

  • Experience with and affinity for a similar modern technical architecture to our existing stack. We’re a microservices based, serverless architecture and are looking for someone who can “yes and” with their own nuances without a need to tear it all down and start over.
  • Significant depth in a rapid growth startup environment across various inflection points. Priorities tend to shift with business requirements, and we’re looking for someone who can pull from a deep well and adapt as needed.
  • A leadership style that emphasizes consistency, transparency, and clarity. Our team works to foster an environment of safety, trust, and accountability.

Nice To Have

  • Strong familiarity with AWS and Python
  • Familiarity with the technology challenges nonprofits face
  • Experience working across various inflection points in the rapid growth startup life cycle
  • Experience working on SaaS technology, ideally at the enterprise level
  • Close proximity to Southern California for somewhat regular in-person collaboration
